What is the Law of Attraction

The law of attraction is a powerful concept that has been around for centuries. Though not scientifically proven (in the modern purview of science), both its proponents and practitioners state incredible benefits of using the law of attraction. 

As per the proponents, it is a universal law that states that like attracts like, and that whatever you focus on and give energy to will come back to you in some form. So if you focus on having positive thoughts and feelings, you will attract positive people, situations and experiences into your life.

This law has been embraced in many different ways, from various spiritual traditions to modern-day self-help books and seminars.

As per me, based on whatever knowledge I have accumulated around the topic, it has close association with the ancient yogic science and the practice of RajaYoga. I will come to that in further in this article. 

Law of Attraction Books

I first remember reading about the concept of positive affirmation and creation of destiny in the classic book “ Think and Grow Rich ” by Napoleon Hill. 

I believe in the power of DESIRE backed by FAITH, because I have seen this power lift men from lowly beginnings to places of power and wealth.

Though this book was first published in 1937, the idea of the “Law of Attraction” was recently published widely through the movie “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. 

“The Secret” was released in Nov 2006, and the google trends clearly shows the impact.

Some books about the Law of Attraction and Positive Affirmations are :

How does the Law of Attraction work?

The law of attraction works by allowing you to manifest your desires. By focusing on what you want, and sending out positive energy and thoughts, you create an energy around you that will attract the things you desire. 

This could be anything from a new job, to a new relationship, to a better life. It doesn’t matter what it is you want, the law of attraction can help you to achieve it.

However, to make the most of the law of attraction, there are a few things you need to know. 

Firstly, it’s important to be aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions. Thoughts are tiny little things that accumulate and manifest over time whatever is it that you are thinking. 

It’s also important to remember that you have to take action in order for your desires to manifest. The law of attraction is not a ‘magic wand’ that will give you everything you want without any effort. In “Think And Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill clearly states the importance of organised planning and persistence  in turning thoughts into achievements. 

Yogic Science and the Law of Attraction 

I first got introduced to the Law of Attraction through one of the trainers at a firm I was working for. The external trainer showed us a glimpse of the movie – “The Secret” and seemed extremely influenced by the concept. I had one positive experience during this training in an activity that cannot be attributed to chance matter. 

I started researching more about it and found that Yogic Science has some theory to support this concept. 

The concept of “Thoughts are Things” proposed by Rhonda Byrne can easily be derived by the structure of the mind system or “Antahkaran” defined in the Yogic Science. 

I will cover the details of this concept in some other article. What is important though, is the similarity in the concept of physical identity of thoughts and mind in the world. 

So, if you ask me, I believe it does work !! 

The Benefits the Law of Attraction

Knowing the law of attraction can be incredibly beneficial in helping you to achieve your goals and to create a better life. It can help you to manifest your desires, as long as you are willing to put in the effort to focus on them and to take action. It can help you to stay motivated and to stay positive, even when things don’t go as planned.

How to achieve your goals using the Law of Attraction? 

By visualising your goals and living them in your mind, as if you have already achieved them, creates the energy required to pull them into your reality. 

For example, if it is a particular amount of money you want to earn, believing that you already have it, and making plans to spend it with intricate details in your mind can help you get closer to your dream.

How to create a better life using the Law of Attraction ? 

In a similar manner, the law of attraction can help you to create a better life. When you focus on the positive aspects of life, you start attracting positive people, situations and experiences into your life. It can also help you to stay motivated and to stay positive, even when things don’t go as planned.

Implementing the Law of Attraction

Once you understand the law of attraction, it’s time to start implementing it in your life. There are a few techniques you can use to begin to practice the law of attraction.

How to practise the Law of attraction?

The first step is to start focusing on what you want. 

Start by making a list of all the things you want in your life. 

Now put a definite quantity and timeline to these things that you want to attract in your life. 

Then, allocate some time daily to visualise each one of those things as if you already have them. 

3 Techniques to practise Law of Attraction for beginners 

There are many ways to practise this theory, but I am listing here the three powerful ways that I have seen work in my life. 


One of the best techniques to use is visualization. This involves taking some time to visualize each of the things you want in your life as if you already have them.

Create a Vision Board to make them even more real. Stick pictures representing your life once you achieve these goals on these boards. 

Place these boards at a prominent location where you can see them, feel them, and be joyful for having these things in your life. 


Affirmations are positive statements that you can use to help manifest your desires. 

They help to focus your energy on what you want, and to create a positive energy around you. 

Some examples of affirmations are 

“I am rich and getting richer everyday”, 
“I am worthy of having what I desire”, 
“ I attract love everywhere I go ”, or  
“ I am healthy and getting healthier every day”. 

Such statements fulfil you with joyous feelings and create the right energy around you.

Another extremely powerful tool for this practice is Gratitude. 

Being grateful about things fills you with strong feelings of joy, attainment, satisfaction, and happiness. 

Gratitude has the power to attract everything that you want to in your life. 

The way you can feel the magic of gratitude happiness in your life is through this simple exercise.

Count Your Blessings to build gratitude in your life

In this simple exercise, what you need to do is – daily think about 10 things that you are grateful for. A preferable time in my opinion is in the morning when you wake up. 

One way you can structure your thoughts is stated  below : 

“ I am so grateful for living in this place – there is so much peace, and happiness around me.” 
“ I am so grateful for having the best parents I could have – they love me so much that … “ 
You can add details for the day that passed. As an example : 
“ I am so grateful for having a perfect wife. So thankful for her unexpected help yesterday in the work that I was stuck with.” 

Irrespective of your belief in the Law of Attraction, practicing gratitude can unlock the power of love in your relations with yourself, your loved ones, and your environment. 

Overcoming Obstacles to Achieving Your Desires

Now like any other subject that requires mastery, there will be initial failures, setbacks, and obstacles.

However, if you are not just a “wishful thinker”, rather an action oriented person who will work when the opportunity knocks the door, you will definitely reap the benefits of this exercise. 

I have personally seen this work at various occasions in my life. Some of them were incredibly precise and cannot be attributed to any other thing.
