6 Simple Spiritual Practices to start in 2023

We are halfway through the first quarter of 2023 and it is a good time to reevaluate our happiness targets. The way to achieve greater satisfaction and happiness in life is to get closer to our real self, or the spiritual self. Adding some spiritual practices in our daily life is a great way to do that.

This is often much easier than we think, because our spiritual self does not care about if you make any mistakes while performing any rituals. It is all encompassing and filled with eternal happiness, as per most spiritual and religious practitioners. To help you get started, here are five simple spiritual practices that you could develop in 2023 to help you cultivate and maintain a meaningful, connected spiritual life.

6 Simple spiritual practices to add to your life this year

1. Daily Meditation or Prayer

Meditation or prayer is one of the most basic and powerful spiritual practices. Whether it’s a few moments of silent prayer or a longer meditation session, these practices can help you connect with the divine on a deeper level and increase your awareness of yourself and the world around you.

The scientific way to meditation starts with our external environment – the way we behave with others, the way we behave with self, and then controlling our breathing – all this leads to a greater control over our emotions and helps us go into deep meditation and rest.

2 . Hatha Yoga or Physical Exercise

Yoga and physical exercise are spiritual practices that can provide an amazing gateway to spiritual development. Aside from the physical benefits, these practices can help you build patience and discipline, sharpen your mental focus and concentration, and even stimulate your creativity. Plus, yoga and exercise can help you connect with your inner self and the divine in a very real and tangible way.

Hathayoga is said to open blocked channels of energy and helps it flow easily within our body.

3. Reading Spiritual Texts

Reading spiritual texts can help you gain wisdom and knowledge about the divine and how to better cultivate your spiritual life. Whether it’s religious texts such as the Gita, Bible or the Quran, or more modern spiritual literature such as writings from spiritual teachers like Rumi, these texts can help you gain insight and understanding about the spiritual world.

It helps you think and build a deeper perspective of life, bringing you one step closer to yourself.

4. Journaling or Gratitude Practice

Writing in a journal or engaging in a gratitude practice can be a great way to reflect on your spiritual journey and center yourself. Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you gain clarity and perspective, while practicing gratitude can give you a deeper appreciation and understanding of the divine.

Practicing gratitude is the simplest exercise one can perform to increase satisfaction. All you need to do is to list out 10 things you are grateful about the day that passed. Slowly, it becomes a habit to be thankful to everything in life – and the joy within keeps increasing.

5. Giving Back

Giving back is essential to spiritual growth. It can help you open your heart to the divine, cultivate compassion and understanding, and even help you build meaningful relationships with others.

You can start with simple acts – whether it’s mentoring someone, helping someone in need, or simply listening to someone in emotional distress, giving back is an incredibly powerful spiritual practice.

6. Practicing Silence

The practice of silence can be incredibly powerful – possibly the most powerful of all spiritual practices, if one decides to silence all chattering in his mind. Taking a few moments each day to sit in stillness and quiet can help you clear your mind and become more aware of the divine. Whether it’s during a meditation session, taking a walk in nature, or just sitting in stillness, these moments of silence can help you connect with something deeper within yourself and the divine.

As you can see, there are several spiritual practices that you can develop and incorporate into your life.

Whether you choose to focus on one or a combination of practices, you’ll find that your spiritual life will become richer and more meaningful as you engage in these practices.

Peace !!
